Cold weather shelters open in King County
Dropping temperatures prompt the opening of warming centers
Freezing temperatures are expected to last through early next week, dropping as low as 21 degrees overnight. In response, several cold weather shelters have been designated in King County:
Auburn
His Ministry in Auburn
240 Auburn Way South, Suite 1B
Hours of operation: 9 p.m. – 7 a.m.
Overnight warming center for homeless individuals beginning Saturday, Dec. 5
No other services are provided.
Bellevue
Crossroads Community Center
16000 NE 10th St.
Hours of operation: 9:30 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.
(Check in and registration from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 a.m. All clients must vacate the SWS by 6:30 a.m.)
As with all shelters, rules for the health and safety of all clients and staff and the broader community will apply. Men, women and families can be accommodated.
Seattle
City Hall
Located on 4th Ave between James and Cherry Streets
Opens at 9 p.m. beginning Friday, Dec. 4
Co-Ed shelter
Frye Hotel
Located on 3rd and Yesler
Opens at 8 p.m. beginning Friday, Dec. 4
Serves only women
Residents are reminded to dress warmly, keep their car’s gas tanks filled, wrap pipes and outdoor faucets to prevent them from freezing, make sure pets have drinkable (non-frozen) water and shelter from the cold, exercise caution when using alternate heat sources to avoid fires and carbon monoxide poisoning, and check in on family, friends and neighbors that may need assistance in dealing with cold weather conditions.
